In the past few days I have been doing a lot of thinking about the mind and how it works. I have been fascinated with how myself and others operate. I believe that it is important to understand how we function, in order to achieve our full potential. It has been said that we are creatures of habit, I remember a manager I had a few years ago said this phrase to me countless times. I did not quite understand the saying then as I do now. As I think about the term habit, I am lead to believe habits are what makes us function in our day to day lives. We form the habit of having a cup of coffee or simple taking a shower everyday. Think about our daily route to work we daydream and talk on the phone, the point is we put very little conscious effort into driving and still arrive to our destination. Our minds have almost unconsciously guides us through these task. We don’t even have to make much of an effort or even think about the task we do daily because they are embedded in our subconscious mind. So my thought is if our minds are capable of unconsciously completing and guiding us through our day to day task, why can’t our minds do the same in leading us into the path we truly desire. The thing is our minds are more then capable of doing just that, and that is the reason I believe that it is vitally important to train your mind to create habits that will produce the kind of results we want out of life. Meaning if one wants to be a writer, that means they must write daily to create an unconscious habit. Creating unconscious habits is the key to succeeding in any field of work or hobby. When you do a task so many times you become unconsciously competent, therefore when it is time to display what you have learned you are more then prepared and ready. Practice truly makes perfect, you must do your craft daily to achieve the results you desire.
I hope this article has been helpful in showing you how to take every opportunity to create habits that will yield you the type of results you desire. If you are a writer write daily if you are an athlete train daily. You must get to a place where you are operating in unconscious competence.
Think of the dream brewing in your soul, if only it was a reality. I woke up this morning thinking about my dreams and what it meant to me, how important was achieving these goals of mine. I thought about the sacrifices associated with these goals and thought would it all be worth it? The real question is what is this life with out a aim or a definite purpose. Weren’t we put on this earth to striving for something bigger then ourselves. We are only here for a short period of time and if we are not careful life will pass us by. The challenge is finding balance, how much should you spend with love ones? How much do you spend working? How much do you spend going after your dream? The real question is what do you value as most important?
I think about this Proverb:
“Go to the ant , O sluggard; consider her ways, and be wise. without having any chief, officer, or ruler. She prepares her bread in summer and gathers her food in harvest. How long will you lie there O sluggard? When will you arise from your sleep? A little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to rest and poverty will come upon you like a robber, and want like an armed man”.
This proverb opens my eyes to the importance of hard work and diligence. If you want something bad enough you must be willing to work diligently for it, if you sitting and WAITING WILL NOT PRODUCE FRUIT. You must awaken a deeper wanting, a burning desire to accomplish your aim in life. I watched Kobe Bryant’s biography Muse on ESPN the other day and I was stricken by something he brought up about what motivated him, he was driven by the desire eat at the same table as the greats (Micheal Jordan, Magic Johnson, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, to name a few) and to actually belong. I was inspired by what he said because it reminded me that nothing is just handed to you. You must first work for it and deserve it. There has to be a burning desire in your heart to want more to never settle for less. The ant works diligently because its in its DNA that is its purpose of existing. When we do not live up to the dream placed in our heart and become sluggish in our ways we begin to lose the most valuable aspect of our being and that is life. Striving for your dream gives birth to something greater within you.
Hope this is inspiring and encourages you never to give up on the dream inside of you!
